I should mention that the deliberate gutter ball was thrown on 11 in a row in the second game of a 6 game set.....I still shot 1466. It was just an average weekend nothing special. That was great, you are probably the only person in the history of bowling that did that. You should be nominated for the guinness book of world records. What went through your mind when you did it. How long did it take you to make that decision?

Lets get a little background info on Falcaro's because I was never there.
First off, how was the food.
second, how was the bar
third, did any gambling go on there besides the bowling
fourth, who were the greatest character's that hung there
fifth, who were the greatest characters that came from somewhere's else to either bowl you guys or bet against you
sixth, what went on there when you guys were just hanging out
seventh, who were the biggest betters that called Falcaro's home
eighth, how many lanes
ninth, who were the biggest betters from the outside that came to Falcaro's
tenth, what hours was Falcaro's opened
final question, who were the best action bowlers that called Falcaro's home and what years did they reign.

The league I bowled in was the TCBA. The league officers routinely ignored blatant "average adjustment" I didn't throw the gutter ball to gain an advantage, just as a protest......and they wanted to suspend me.....nothing said about all those "bowlers" who let a spare or 2 or 3 slip away on purpose when the game is "out" I had thought about throwing the "ball" for years but the right opportunity hadn't shown itself. I had quit bowling in disgust a couple of years before being talked into bowling the travel league. I'm an old school bowler learned on real pins, laquer, with rubber balls. I couldn't stand listening to the "bowlers" bitching about the "shot" all the while shooting 30 or 40 pins over their heads. The only ball I own now is a 40 year old black beauty an can average 210 on "the shot"without practice......nothing shot on the "house condition" is worth spit.

Hi, Guilty as charged. Did you guess? I sent you a P.M. yesterday fessing up. I kept dropping hints to see if anyone would remember....I was just a wanabe on the edges of the game then. To green to realize what was happening and the history that was being written all around me. You might have seen my name in BJ a couple of years ago when in protest of the ridiculous conditions I deliberately threw a gutter ball in the travel league here......caused quite a stir and several letters to the magazie after my interview published. Hey Steve........once you mentioned you worked for Vic and Bobby, I knew it was you. I guess you know who I am? You came after me one time, I forget why. I was one of the younger guys coming up in the action ranks at that time. I definitely bowled my share of action. I think I may have bowled you and beat you....that's why you came after me. It's been a long time. I have to say you threw a strong ball from the left side.......if you were bowling today, you would be one of the better lefties. You would probably own RVC. There is a guy over there, a lefty, throwing a full roller, with probably 20 or more 300's.....what a joke!

Answers to your questions: First off, how was the food....... the food was typical luncheonette food, although Mike the Greek did have some special dishes. The food was better than other bowling alley food. Nearby we had choices of restaurants we could walk to. The Sherwood Diner was right down the block, open late, great diner. The "greasy spoon" or "LD" Lawrence Diner was down the block as well. If you felt like chinese, Sam Pan was also right next door along with Mauros pizza. second, how was the bar......the bar was pretty active, but not a lot of women......mostly guys who finished bowling action or guys betting on sports games. third, did any gambling go on there besides the bowling.....are you kidding? We bet on everything and anything. We were real degenerates. I remember pitching quarters outside against the stoop, running races in the parking lot, bar dice, cards, horseracing, sports betting, arm wrestling, betting on high scores on the pinball machine or video game etc. fourth, who were the greatest character's that hung there.......there were so many, Gibby Pastor Sr. "The Real Matchmaker", Headbone, Paul Rowan, Dennis Delgaise, The Mope, Gary "Cheesecake" Robinson, Al "Ironman" Pinolla, Vic "The Barber" and Mikey Bones. fifth, who were the greatest characters that came from somewhere's else to either bowl you guys or bet against you......without a doubt it would have to be the "beeper" Jeff Klein. Also there was a crazy lefty who use to come down from green acres, can't remember his name, sixth, what went on there when you guys were just hanging out......if we weren't trying to set up a match, we would be talking about bowling, eating, drinking in the bar or gambling on something else seventh, who were the biggest betters that called Falcaro's home.......house bowlers at falcaro's stuck together when a house bowler bowled someone from outside.......no one really bet big by them self.....but as a group we could send it in. Barry Bernstein bet big money. eighth, how many lanes.........48 lanes all in a straight row....no columns anywhere! ninth, who were the biggest betters from the outside that came to Falcaro's..........Bill Daly tenth, what hours was Falcaro's opened.......Falcaro's opened around 8 in the morning and stayed open until the action stopped as long as you promised Gary, the manager, you would take him to the sherwood diner to eat after the match. final question, who were the best action bowlers that called Falcaro's home and what years did they reign.[/quote]......... During my time, which was the mid 70's to mid 80's the best action shooters from Falcaro's were: Ira "The Whale"Katz Freddy "The Ox" Arbolino Freddy "Silver Streak" Mayo Tommy "Triple" Yadanza Bruce "The Dipper" Pastor Gibby Pastor Jr. Barry "Cuffs" Clare Phil "Cap" Caporusso Jr. AAron Goldfedder Jack Kurkomelis Julio Curra Andrew Castardi George Stephens Sr. Dennis Delgaise Steve Reiss The Beezer

How much was $2000 worth in 1943? Detroit News Jaunuary 15, 1943 Rivals Pay Dearly Munn Claims Marathon Bowling Title By John Walter Detroiters will be interested to know an Elizabeth, N.J., bowler, William (Whitey) Munn, is setting himself up as the undefeated claimant of the "world's marathon bowling championship," and is making his marathon bowling pay. Recently Munn, 43-year-old New Jersey tenement inspector, defeated Fred Voelpel, of Long Island; Frank Serpico, of Philadelphia, and Ray Schultz, of Buffalo, in marathon matches. his opponents failed in the late games with numbed hands and bleeding fingers as Munn continued to top the 200 mark. Against Serpico, Munn averaged 231 for the 50 games at Philadelphia. Serpico, incidentally, was Munn's teammate on Joe Falcaro's ill-fated National Bowlers Journal five that lost its world's match game five-man title to Joe Norris'Stroh team here last winter. Detroiters also saw Munn, former structural iron worker, in action at the Petersen Classic at the Palace Recreation last month. Munn finished in fifth place. After that Munn bowled half a dozen money matches and averaged 216 for the distance as he cleaned up. Four of his matches were with Alex Graham of Dover, O., creamery proprietor. WINNING ANOTHER At present Munn is on his way to a victory over Joe Krupa, 35-year-old Clevelander, in a 100-game match for $2,000. The past week-end saw Munn out bowl Krupa by 679 pins in the first 50 games at Cleveland. The second 50 games will be rolled at Elizabeth, N.J., this week-end. www.williammunn.blogspot.com/

Did Sis and Johnny Myers bowls action at Falcaro's. I remember a match with those two against Burt Goodman and Dick something at Parkway Lanes in Brooklyn. The house was packed, it was well advertised in advance, Sis and Johnny Myers chewed them up. That was some ball Johnny Myers threw...

Two people I think may have been overlooked were Sis Montovani and Mike Kilgallon. Sis was a little before my time. Mike was great but I believe he put his job ahead of bowling, I believe he was a transit cop. One story I remember, but wasnt there for, the match between Mike and Ira katz. Mike won the first 4 bowling a 300 and the fourth game. Ira won the next 5.....That was action, when guys would go 3, 4, 5 down and keep bolwing.
I remember Daly and Burgland went 6 down to me and Joe Colonna. That was action...
One thing I remember about my idol Limongello. I used to usually aim at the line between 2 boards, so basically aimig at two boards. I asked Mike one time what board he was aiming at, he said the 12 1/2 board. He was so acurate he would aim at half boards and average 220, 230 when you only had one maybe 2 boards of area.
A name to add the Falcaros list. Bob Hirschman, good friend of Jerry "Beezer" Hauser.
My memory is misty but things are slowly coming back. hahaha
I'd still like to hear some about my uncle Pete Pastor. I remember My Father, Gibby Sr. saying that when Pete and Limon toured the action together it was Pete they remembered. He was a family man so never had any chance to go on tour. He did win the Newsday Tournament at age 48..

The first time I saw Sis was at Parkway lanes in Brooklyn, he bowled a doubles match with Johnny Myers against Burt Goodman and his partner Dick. Sis bowled anchor and they destroyed Goodman and company. The house was packed that night for this big match and they left winning a bundle...

I thought that this board would get more "ACTION" then it is getting! I do know the reason, most of the shooters during action days don't use the computer. I just spoke with the "Whale" Ira Katz, and he told me that he would love to post some stories but it would take him 3 days to do so because he doesn't type and just started using a computer. Ira did tell me that the next time he sees me, he will give me some stories to post. The stories are out there, it's just a matter of getting them. I would love to hear from Tommy "Triple", Joe Viverito, Julio Curra, Joey Cologna, Sperber, Gibby Pastor Jr., Phil "Cappy" Caporusso Jr, Steve Reiss, Aaron Goldfedder, Paul Katz, Steve Weiss, Morey Berger, Tony Devito etc. Some of the stories are gone forever with the passing of Falcaro's action shooters such as Gibby Pastor sr., Freddie "The Ox" Arbolino, Vic "the Barber", Sambo etc.
Maybe eventually some of the names mentioned will post some stories.
Hi Dipper! you were tough!

Hi Dipper! you were tough! If anyone that doesn't type or use the computer could either do a video or just plain audio telling their action stories (cd or dvd) and get it to me I would edit it if need be and post it to our site and YouTube. Another option is for them to do a video directly on YouTube and send us the link... Photos would also be great... PS One problem I know for sure because I've been doing different forum formats for years, is that by far most people read and enjoy the posts but don't post themselves. I mean like about 90% or more. I get the tracking numbers and I can tell you many people are checking out this board everyday.

This section on Falcaro's is awesome. I grew up in the 70's bowling in the Saturday morning junior league and then watching the afternoon action. Freddy Mayo was my favorite bowler to watch because he was fun with that spinning ball going 100 miles an hour and he always wore the same t shirt I bet you. I never thought Jack was a great action player. Kilgannon and Fogelson were unbeatable at Falcaros. Richie may have had the shortest backswing I ever saw. Big Fred was also great. Lemon used to come down very often. I bowled with Andrew Castardi, Chun Bae, Freddie's sons in the junior league. Mike of course ran the restaurant and I think his other son was named Angelo. Keep coming with the comments. I'm loving the memories.
