Does anyone remember action at Elmsford Lanes, Route 9A, in Elmsford (Westchester County) New York in the early to mid 1980's, starting around 1982? I grew up in the area and used to hang around there and also pinchased there for a while. If you have any good stories, post them here.
I think that for a while action wasn't allowed at Homefield in Yonkers so it came to Elmsford. I definitely remember Jeff "The Beeper" Klein, Mike Gaito and others (maybe Jeff Kidder) bowling action at Elmsford.
Unfortunately, Elmsford went out of business in around 1986. Its now a huge arcade and pool hall called "Sportstime USA" and a couple of other stores. That's how big it was. 62 lanes straight across.

No, I was never in a center with pin boys. But, my Dad was a pin boy in the Bronx during the 1940's. And he once got knocked unconscious by a pin that flew out of the gutter.
So no, I would not have liked being a pin boy. I'll take my good old Brunswick A2's any day. And you can get hurt in those too, believe me!

Jean was the daughter of the owner. I spent many a day at the bar in Ovington playing poker, won a lot over the years.

Bowled first games with pin boys in Falcaro's on 181st in upper Manhattan in 1954.
We used to pin for each other after school at Inwood Lanes. Cost was .25 a game and if we pinned it was .12 and a half cents a game.
We used to shoot barrels and candles also. They would fly from alley to alley. The pin boys were getting cold conked all the time.
I also called the foul line for the leagues. You got about two bucks for the night. I sat in a high chair with a whistle and just stared at the foul line. If a foot went over I'd blow the whistle and everyone would stop and stare at me. I'd yell "three" and the guy would curse me.
The funniest is I can't see well and don't drive to this day.

OK. I think I'm going to change the name of this thread to "Does Any One Here Remember Pin Boys?"
Does any one have any Elmsford Lane stories?
Though I have enjoyed the pin boy stuff.

Great bowling center, worked as a pinchaser while attending college in the early 80's.
There was hardly any action except for Saturday nights, but nothing to brag about here.
Most of the action moved down to the Bronx & Queens.

You are right they kicked the action out of Homefield, and it came to my house Elmsford Lanes where me and Tommy Majanski were mechanics. I wasnt a top action bowler but was pretty much unbeatable in my house. This guy Jimmy unger used to put down the shot, and I knew it like the back of my hand. Combined with the fact that I was one of the biggest crankers around, I won alot of money at Elmsford. The first there action was Sat night after leagues into the early morning hours on Sunday. I don't think Jimy Unger was there yet. There was this old man they called Subway who did the lanes without the machine. I remember being doubles partners with Mikey Gaito many times, and also winning alot of money betting on him. That guy was like a machine when he was at the top of his game. Jeff Kidder, nobody better for a time. I remember Johnny Rubio owned the pro shop, and his brother peter, and Francis "Silky" Sullivan. Took it over when Johnny went away. I remember being a kid, telling my mom I was sleeping over some friend's house, and going with Peter, and Silky to the action. We went to Green Acres on the island, Hank's Fiesta, the one near Yankee stadium, one in Spring Valley. I remember alot of people betting on me at Elmsford.
