I am starting this post for those who wish to talk about what goes on in this house.
I invite anyone who currently bowls here, or who has bowled here in the past, to post their comments in the thread.
Past stories about matches that took place in Van Nest are encouraged - I for one would like to hear about the history of the house, and the "characters" who passed through there.

How about the match where you and Bobby Gogolack bowled these two girls who thought they could beat any of the guys? As I recall, you ripped them up big time! ;D

I remember that match, very interesting match. I think the best night of action we had down there was the Rudy revs "s" shot match. A lot of action that night. All different matches that night. I think at least 5 or 6 matches. However, the girls vs. the boys was probably the most memorable.
The Robert Smith match probably drew the biggest crowd. Everyone was there that night. Big crowds in the back and I think we gave them a good show. It was a very competitive match.
It feels so comfortable to post and not have to worry about the nonsense that usually goes on.

The match between myself & Bobby vs the 2 girls (1 was Alex's girlfriend at the time, I believe) did not take place the same night as the Rudy-Rubeo match, but it was an interesting match.
As I recall, Bobby had bowled singles vs. one girl and was up a few games. Then the two of them wanted to bowl doubles vs Bobby and a partner of his choice. Judge & John were involved in a match vs. Alex & Dave, so Bobby asked me to partner with him. We went 2 up and had just tied a game when one girl flagged a 10-pin. Then the girls wanted to double the bet. It was now almost 5AM. It was agreed that this would be the last game and the bet was doubled. The lanes were roasted a t tthat point, and I shot 275, Bobby shot in the 240's and we ended 3 up in games, 4 up in money.
The Rubeo-Rudy and Rubeo-Smith matches were unique in that it was the first time that a touring professional bowler had come to Van Nest. Seeing the action legend Rudy Revs practice for 1 hour with every ball he had, then come out and shoot 124, then proceed to leave the 5-7-10 - that was a sight. There were other matches that night, which are detailed on the post on the regular site.
Mr. Tops - I want to thank you and whomever is working with you on this board for finally having a portion dedicated to legitimate conversation about bowling - this section was long overdue, and much appreciated by the intelligent, mature bowlers.
Keep up the good work, and if you are ever in the Bronx, stop by Van Nest Lanes, so I , and others, can thank you in person.

I'm going to contact my uncle, and ask him about the action "back in the day" at Van Nest. He used to bowl in the Knights of Columbus league--the ancestor of the league we both bowl in. I'll probably talk to him by week's end.

Your right, it was way over due, but we now have it, thanks for the kind words.

To be able to hear about two home town heroes taking down touring proffesionals is just an amazingly inspiring thing to young bowlers from my area. So I was just amazed to have heard about the DJ/Chris v. Jr?Judge match. But to be able to see a local favorite smack around a notorious action bowler in Revs...that was just so amazing. I thought watching that match (Jr v. Revs) was more exciting than any actual PBA match I have seen in person. I mean, up until that night I thought it was impossible for a human with as many RPMs as Rudy to leave a pocket 5-7-10. It was an awesome night, something I will never forget.
PS. Being able to post on a board and not have to worry about some punks causing trouble is a deffinate plus.

You would of loved the days when Jeff Kidder, along with Bill Daly and company took on many top touring pros for big $$$
