Hello all,
I regret it took me so long to find this site! The stories I have read hear are classic.
I still remember Artie Naclerio tanking a big shot when the "Beeper" beeped during his approach.
Enraged, Artie leapt over the settee, chased Beeper out of the building, and down Boston Post Rd. into the night!
My action history revolves around Westchester County houses in the mid/late '70's and early '80's!
In those days, Dave Heller was the man, but for pure action, I still think Hank Behrbom was best.
So if you're looking for info about that era, I'm your man.

Welcome to Actionbowlers.com, glad you finally found us.
Yes, I would appreciate any and all action tales you have to offer, If you have enough of them I will create a section just for your stories. Like I did for the Lenny the Cane.
The best to you Zoo

Back in the 70s one night, Beeper was given $50 to leave the bowling alley. He only threw all those beeps when he was nervous. Don't remember Dave Heller being much of an action bowler. Berbom was great in his day. I saw him one night bowling doubles with Tony Attanasio the bus driver at Woodhaven. They split four or six games, only because Tony averaged around 170, Hank 240+. Hank needed a two hits in the tenth to win the last game. He threw the turkey and shot 290.

Dave Heller bowled most of his action at White Plains & The Loyal Inn. Then his game fell off when he started his relationship with Lisa Maurice, who was a great bowler in her own right. Lisa would have been a force on the LPBA tour. but she was very badly hurt in a car accident. Lisa bowled at Central Ave lanes, another house that has been closed down and turned into a furniture store.
What a beautiful center the Loyal Inn was, one of the first houses with auto scoring. Too bad she was closed down.

She was almost killed by some drunk while crossing the street. last I heard many years ago is that they moved to Calif. and got married. Dave Heller was real good.

You are correct about Dave Heller. And I remember the Lisa Maurice accident and that they had moved to California. Dave didn't bowl much action but had a few very nice finishes on the PBA tour. Loyal Inn is now a Staples and yes, a very fine house. It was my home house from '65 to '83 when I moved on to Ridge Bowl and Post my final 3 years before hanging it up. The Loyal Inn Friday Majors was the premier league in Westchester Cty during the late '60's through the mid '80's. Many of the action bowlers bowled at one time or another in that league, Behrbom, Gaito, Joe Hooks, Frank Gentile, Materasso, Heller, Iula, Kourabas, Steiner, and Tartaglia to name a few.

The Hub is Spring Valley had a great major league back in the mid 60's. I bowled on a team with Ernie Schlegel, Herb Ringel, "Fast Eddie" Fenton and John Huie. Ralph Engan, Bob Materasso, Hank Boroughs and lots of the top action bowlers were in that league.

What classic leagues through out the years had the most action on league night?

Hello there !! I bowled at Bradley Bowl in early 80s I was 17 at the time, with Gary Morgan, and he often talked about the Paramus Eastern Classic League and Dave Heller. I did watch Dave win a Regional in 83 at Bradley. what a sight !!!! he was throwing a black hammer very hard, I think his last game was a 278 and I’m prettty sure Tony Torrice and Gary Schultis were on a few pairs next to him. What a show that was…he didn’t miss !!!!
