Dear Forum Memebers:
I found this forum after watching the Mark Roth tournament. Bowling has brought back some memories of the "days" of action.
I used to bowl at Woodhaven back in the 80's. The action was great. We had the Phillipinos with all the loot, we had action everywhere. I bowled pots with Tavey and Joe Lorenzo on a regular basis. I bowled my first 300 against the SNAKE..LOL.. Paulie the garbage man was also a favorite of mine. I saw Andy Ippolito at the US Open. True bowling alley "rat". Helleva nice guy. I always liked Andy's passion.
Joe Maniscalco taught me the game. I owe him alot of thanks. Now to the point.
My name is Mike Zeomber and the bowling community knew me well. I bowled at Woodhaven as a home base, and also bowled at Jib Lanes. I will always remember the action days at Woodhaven " I was 17 at the time". Bowling alley closed at 1pm to the public but action went all night long. Tony Carvel, another name that comes to mind.
I am moving back to New York after living in Michigan the last 15 years. I got back into the game only 4 years ago after a pretty bad back injury. I am looking for that "Woodhaven Action", is it still around? In Michigan, I got Arnie Goldman around, and some really good bowlers. However, it is not LIKE NEW YORK.
I am moving back to New York. Can someone point me in the right direction? What are the best leagues? WHERE IS THE GREAT ACTION? WHAT NIGHTS?
Thank you.. Mike Z

The guys I seen at Woodhaven.
Joe Lorenzo, "Snake". His bud Jimmy. Tony Carvel, "bowled a ton of action". Norm Ginsberg would pop in. Beep was always going over the foul line and beeping people. Rudy Kasimakis was there, Joe Man..More will come to me.
As far as a story, I have a good one. I worked at Woodhaven back in 83-84. I would love to bowl action on Saturday nights after the Phillipinos bowled their league. They would all bowl between 10-15 and they would groove it out making it a "bumper zone". I would kill these guys playing 25-15 with a bumper out to 10. Huge area. Gray Angle was my money ball.
Anyhow, I wanted to bowl this one "loose" Philipino. He said that we had to bowl doubles and he chose my girlfriend as the bowler. She was 145 average and the phillipino girl was about 165. I knew I could real off big games at any time. My opponent averaged 180, I was 195 but I knew I had the nuts. Everyone knew I had the nuts so the match of the night was me and my girlfriend vs the Philippino Couple.
When all the money came pouring in I could not believe how much was in the middle. The first game took 15 minutes to set and the money was $8000.00. My personal bet was $500.00.
It was awesome at 18 years old to see this much confidence in you. I shot 3 240's and needed every one of them. We won the first 3 when my thumb tore apart and the blood was non stop. Nothing could stop the blood. I had to withdraw to any more bowling. The Phillipinos got mad and never bowled me again.
I made alot of people alot of money that night. It was alot of fun.
