HEY LEN YOU OLD DOG I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW I NEVER KNEW JOE S WAS AT FORTWAY BEFORE THE RIDGE. HOW I LOVED BOWLING AT BAY RIDGE. I THINK IT WAS 5 AND 6 THAT HAD THE HIGH BOARD. I REMEMBER THE 1ST 10 GAME MARATHON THERE I SHOT 279 THE LAST GAME TO WIN IT. UNFORTUNATLY I ONLY BOWLED A FEW MATCHES THERE. BUT MANY A SWEEPER AND KING OF THE HILL. THAT HOUSE WAS TOUGHER THAN MAPLE. BUY THE WAY I SPOKE TO SNAKE LAST WEEK HE AND C BANK STILL BOWLING EACH OTHER DAILY. SNAKE COULD RETIRE OFF HIMM HAHA. REMEMBER THE DOUBLES MATCHES SNAKE AND I BOWLED TOGETHER AT COUNTRY AND THE GREEN WE NEVER LOST. BUT WE WOULD USUALLY END UP BOWLING WRONG HAND POT GAMES. AAHH THOSE WERE THE DAYS

Came across this site a short while ago. I knew Philly Marino way back when. Who is this cane? Hard to believe his stories. Those phenomenal scores in the sixties. Just do not buy them. A big exaggeration, but fun worth reading. if I ever see Philly again, will confirm. Didn't he bowl alot of doubles with Pete Anos?

Not referring to your scores. Reference to scores in 1960 as posted by cane. Hard to believe but amusing. In the 70s I believe the scores posted. Urethane lanes were in.

Hey Cane do you know anything about Jamar, on west 7th st, The dance school scenes from Sarurdnight Fever were shot there where the alleys use to be.
What about Kingsway (Kings Hiway and C.I.A.)
Mayfair lanes on East 17th st off of Ave U
Was bernie rosengarten bernie bannans from Ave M or is it someone else, what do you lnow about bannans, besides his bowling and being a big basketball better, along with Ralphie from Leader lanes.

you didnt need urethane lanes, in the sixties to score big , ask the s man . take a mop and flood everything from 5 in on the right top the left gutter, same as todays 5to5 , or a smart player would look at the trolly tracks dug into the lanes by the constant repition of all the house bowlers usually between 10 and 15 or you could look at the maple and pine boards , and and have big advantage over opponent by knowing to either stay away from the maple , which retained the oil or use them for a stop on the ball if near the pocket 2 cases at sid gordens 21 and 22 had many maple boards going from 12 feet down to 35 feet down on 22 the pine boards were a lock pocket if rolled between 6 to 12 and 21 7 to 11 so you had a ton if you knew that. as a house bowler there , i would show my doubles partners or would have easy 40 pin advantaged 235 avg that pair 5 and 6 both had 89and 10 with no hit on the ball played 195 but with no hit 220, if they are still around ask petey pastor ok or tony farina

i bowled on 9 and 10 at glenwood with darryl mason against davey faltz and richie da vita from kings lanes , shot was 5 out we both thru 11 out of 12 and both missed 10 pin 268 opening game they quit 1 and out ernie bowled a lot of action there i know jack is still around ask them if the shot was tough at either glenwood upstairs or seaview the high side or neptune, the easiest house in 1959- 60 i dont think there was an average under 185 48 team league won by falcaros team with the ox

about the scores in the 60s maybe lc can get the horn to verify what i saw when he was 13 or 14 at leemark vs 2 navy boys in doubles match or what he shot at maple 9 gamer i know he had at least 3 279s and 3 250s in that one i was 50 under 2nd was 50 over. richie didnt have to bowl the 9th game but went 279 front 9 on 1 and 2 slam 7 i believe he was 449 over but you can ask him also saw richie throw the ball thru the machine on a fly at bay ridge took out the #7 after leaving a 4-6 after front 8 while chasing gary simmonetti who one that marathon but that was late 70s how many 135 pounders could throw a 16 pound ball 60 feet on a fly

i felt like rip van winkle, who woke up after 20 years sleep in catskills after bowling 9 pins. after being away from the game from 66 to 76 after returning to maple to watch the classic league one night i couldnt believe my eyes. guys i used to bowl against and with, were shooting a ton. i watched the 1st place team no names they are friends , go from 190 200 bowlers to 220 to 230 couldnt believe my eyes. my how conditions changed the game. the same scores you could bowl in jersey you could now bowl in brooklyn wow
