Well Sunday afternoon I bowled for the 2nd straight week! No Practice balls and shot 217, 233. Both games I had 2 opens each game. There were pot games being bowled 2 pair away and the blood in my veins raced threw my body as recollections of days as a bowler ran thru my brain. So my back hurting alittle I decided to watch! After they were finished I spoke to most of them about bowling and these resin balls and how they work. One guy after we were talking a few minutes must have taken offence to what I was saying about bowling and in not so many ways "Called Me Out"Next sunday. My words to him were I watched your last 2 games and you 180 200 I bowled 2 games my 3rd and 4th game in 10 years!!!!! and I shot higher than you. This kid just threw the ball anywhere right, did not hit the same ARROW twice in a row.And was telling me how I would have to shoot 250 or better to win. Ive got to say it was a carry contest and there were some decent shooters there but 1 lefty about 21 yrs old won 2 of the 3 games I watched . I actually enjoyed watching him he was accurate and did not make many mistakes. He also did not have to make any adjustments becouse his side was not going to change much with just 1 lefty, but he was impressive. But any way i will hopefully be there again next sunday trying to push myself to 3 or 4 games . I than spoke to my oldest friend CBANK about the new equiptment and he gave me a quick knowledge of how I should drill it. Now i will talk to Tom Laskow at Circle and discuss this resin stuff some more.and start to drill a few balls over the next month or so. Anyone interested in making the comeback with me, Circle Lanes sunday at 10 am.

Lou, sorry I missed ya. I usually bowl in some of those Pot games on Sunday, but I was fishing instead. Once you feel more confident with respect to your back, you should bowl in the Beat the House Sunday mornings at 10:00...the pot games are usually after that and usually bowled on lanes 23-26...which in my opinion are a couple of the highest scoring pairs in the house. It would be nice to put a face together with your stories. Just look for a lefty that throws the ball all over the place! LOL! ;D

the good part is today all over the place still scores lol. but lets get together i need someone to work with me a bit its hard i am 60 pounds overweight and the back just aint what it used to be. But I still think I can whoop most these kids today. I figure i have averaged 219 for 5 games with NO PRACTISE BALLS with another 20 or 30 games under my belt i will be at about 1/2 of what i was as a 21 yuear old. If I was 21 and bowling on this stuff I would average 240 The word of the day "cantmiss" you would have to be awful not to average 200 today. 180 bowlers are now 220 bowlers. pins fall easier the sideboards are much livelier and the oil patterns are easier and the balls are amazing put it all together with a bowler who has talent = 240. even if the oil was gutter to gutter these new balls can still give the backend if drilled right. so a good bowler can still create alot of area if they new how to read the lanes and work the breakpoint instead of the mark. anyhow e mail me we will try to get together this weekend Lou

Lou, I usually decide whether or not I am bowling on Sunday on Sunday morning. I am bowling there tonight in a 3man 4game league.
If we meet you can teach this 37 year old "youngster" something. I have never been an accurate bowler..that coupled with being a lefty can frustrate "better" bowlers on those can't miss days! I visualize the "general " trajectory I want the ball to travel and actually look down at the last second. For some reason, I have never felt comfortable fixating on the arrows. This is why I struggle on harder shots.

Looking down is really not a problem as long as your swing follows the path towards the mark you started looking at. I too looked down and never really saw my ball cross the board unless i caught it by looking up again. but One day Johnny Petraglia put 1/2 a toothpick under a piece of tape and told me to hit it missed the 1st shot than hit it 29 of 30 times. my eyes were only on the target till my 4th step. than I too looked down.I am looking forward to meeting you

Lou..it was good to meet you at Circle. I was pathetic on the night. 162 with 4 7pinouts, 180 something, then I go spare and am working on a 290 if I pack out. Swishing 7-10...256! Finally, a mediocre 226. My timing was completely out of whack the entire night. That is what happens when you suck! LOL! Maybe someday I will donate some money to you if you bowl pots. Take Care.

Louis:
Very glad to read how you are doing back on the lanes. I'm sure you are super charged to realize you still can do it. I hope your back holds out and even gets stronger with the exercise.
We traded emails and spoke on the phone a few months ago. I'm the guy who gave you Ernie's phone number. I live near Somerville/Raritan.
Keep it going.

hello steve , What did you think !!!! I did not have a chance without new equiptment so the house ball idea was my only shot and I shot lights (257)out against that kid. and with a plastic 15 lb ball that had a happy face on it.they will now come out of the woodwork to bowl me. hopefully i will get some equiptment by next week. And hopefully my back does not hurt as much as it does today"its killing me". But write me and truthfully tell me what you thought watching me bowl for the 1st time. and remember it was only my 3rd time bowling in 10 years!!!

Lou, I am far from anyone that should be judging people's style. You certainly handled the situation with flying colors on Sunday, and throw a powerful ball. I don't think you need anyone to pat you on the back! LOL! It seems as though you are confident enough in your abilities and have proven them in the past. I am just a weekend hack that likes to bowl in some pots here and there.

Some people are all mouth and no action, some people are no mouth and all action, ever since Lou was a kid he always was all mouth and all action, big time action, the type that most people can only dream about, nobody shits on Lou.
The best to ya.

Thank you old dog unfortunatly the mouth sometimes got me in trouble. I would never back away from a match that is true ,even though I knew I was at a disadvantage. Like 1 night C Bank and I went to Garden state bowl and met mike Yenza there. I ended up bowling cherry pie, I shot 300 the 1st game and than avg 235 the next 2 and was not even close. Even though Joe conigliaro told me not to bowl a lefty there. But c bank ended up backing yenza against cherry pie and Yenza ended up ahead a few games. I ended up getting even and ahead a few dollars with cherry pie at Showplace where I won 4 straight.

Was Mike Yenza a lefty from Maple in the early eighties that managed a milk farm store on the corner of Dahill Rd and Ave P, if so how good was he.

Mike was the lefty from maple. He was a good shooter who never quit. threw a good ball and was smart on the lanes. He could also read the lanes well. he was good on all conditions, that in itself says alot, most lefties were only good outside 7.but he could get in to 12- 15 and still play.He won the big tourney at edison one year and I believe they shorted him 20 grand

Sounds like the guy I'm thinking of, at the time I had a paper bag distrabution company with Butch on McDonald Ave in the early eighties. Mike's store was one of our stops and he always bragged about his bowling, weren't sure sure if he was all talk or the real deal. Butch hadn't bowled action since 1976 when he hustled Barry Bernstein & Bill Daley. We set up a match with him at Maple one afternoon, just testing him for $50 or $100 a game just to see if he had a game. Butch split 4 games with him and quit, his thumb was already hurting, plus he saw Mike was a real bowler and he felt lucky to of won 2 of 4, If I remember correctly he had a big mouth, or was the big mouth his betting partner from the store.

Mike was not much of a mouth off, he would not back down from a good war of words either. Anyway on the road back- Sunday I bowled in the K of the H at circle shot 201,212,252. it took 739 than I bowled pots and it took 300 1st 290 2nd, 280 3rd, to win of course I was not 1 of them. But I did win 1 game ended up breaking even. Here's the problem there were 3 or 4 people who wanted to bowl me the week before and were all coming to bowl me etc etc. but none I mean none showed up after I beat that young guy the week before with a plastic house ball. One guy did want to bowl me but I was tired after bowling 10 games and my thumb unfortunatly split. I thought I bowled well I left 9-10 pins the 1st 2 games. I am still trying to get use to the ball reactions, I felt my ball was driving late leaving the wraparound 10, more often then the weak 10. I got to bowl with Jeff Morin again in the K of the H and he has been helping me the past couple of weeks. He won the K of the H but ended up tying Mike . Jeff is a hell of a bowler accurate ,consistant knowledgable etc. anyway I will be back for more on sunday. I will drill 1 more ball hopefully it will help with my carry problems. I am still not 100 % comfortable with my grip and pitches yet so a few more games might help!!!!

Typical Pot scores. 739 higher than usual for the cut. Usually around 720. Didn't go Sunday...too nice for the bowling alley...went fishing instead. Glad I didn't donate my money with those scores.

It is Monday 12/1 1st of all CONGRADULATIONS TO CREATE AREA!!!!!He won the King of the Hill at circle on sunday for a BIG payday . He bowled fantastic. I told you you have the game , maybe now you will believe me. 2nd :the road back, aahh yes well I shot 650 or so my carry is awful still. But the good news is after the KotH I bowled a doubles match with Hoss against 2 lefties , and bowled much better I had a 240 and a 250 game in the 4 I bowled bad news is every ball except 3 in 4 games was THERE. I left 2 swiishing 7-10's and a bunch of 10 pins probobly 12 in 4 games if not more. I will be drilling another ball hopefully tomorrow with weights that will roll earlier, and not so much flip in the backend. To Create Area once again great bowling!!!! YOU ARE THE KING of the HILL!!!!!!!!

BY the way the results were 2-2 they quit after 4. I carried better as I became tired. I presume my ball speed was softer and the lanes started to change a little but, who knows. Anyway that is the results from the 3rd week of bowling. I will be looking to bowl in some 10 game tourneys soon. maybe a marathon or something so please let me know if there are any coming up and where! thanks to vnl for letting me know about his so far.

Lou..thanks I had a pretty darn good afternoon. I had a great line to the pocket as long as I kept it second arrow in. My only "out of bounds" was the outside, as it would send my ball right through the beak. I didn't have a game below 220 all day. The 220 game was the result of 3 Ringing 7 pins. In the semi-finals, the righties really didn't have a chance. Lane 33 was a disaster to them and they had no consistent shot at the pocket. As the only lefty in the semi's I had the clear advantage. In the finals, it was lefty versus lefty. I won the first game 235 to 221. I was fortunate enough to through 6 or 7 in a row to finish that game. In the second game I was getting crushed and my chances did not look good. I don't think I threw I strike until the 5th or 6th frame and had two opens. Fortunately, Mike threw a split, and I packed out for a 236. Mike needed the first one in the 10th to lock me out, but left a swishing ten pin with wood spinning on the deck right next to it, but refusing to hit the ten. Whew!
Then I bowled Pot games and won all 5 pots I bowled...it was just my day. Righties were not posting the usual 260-300 scores, and I just methodically posted 240+ games.

Good thing I did not bowl pots after the match . But on the lanes we bowled the lefties they also had an advantage but not as much as you did!!!! I believe you just outbowled them. yes the right side breaks down faster becouse of more play, but the scores will still remain high becouse of the equiptment of today. do not knock the way you bowled by saying you had a better shot or your side holds up better remember you still have to make a shot.nuff said .

Lou, I am not knocking myself down, just being realistic! LOL! A couple of weeks ago Hoss had the line to the pocket and was unstoppable in pots. Today, I did. With the carry contest shots out there, what comes around goes around. Next week I will be handing my $ back to someone else. LOL!

Hoss had the line in our match but he too had a problem carrying. he creates area by playing down and in. which in turn gave him area left and right of his target.when he tugged a shot it backed off than finished ,when he threw one out to the dry it hooked to the pocket ultimatly CREATING AREA!!!!Hoss is a player who is tough because he can play the lanes on a straighter line .which makes it less complicated to get to the pocket remember till this day the fastest and most direct way between 2 points is a straight line!!! and thats his approach to the lanes.Put him on a 4th or 5tyh arrow shot and his carry % would decrease. that is true of any line deeper than 15 . where in reality the bowlers that hit the ball more will have an advantage on his game by playing at a house with an inside line. Hoss is a good shooter,I have bowled with him before about 9 years ago and he was decent than but seams to have improved. I would take him as a partner most anywhere.

Well, I will have to see how I do in brackets tonight. Last week I was alive in 7 of 10 after two games thanks to back to back 250+ games. I didn't win one as I freakin' shot a 192 in the last game. Still came out $20 bucks ahead...better than nothin'! LOL!
