Add MIKE DE ROSA's list the name. Solid 200 action bowler from the 60s and 70s with rubber from New Jersey. Mike was really skinny back in the late sixties before he was drafted. He's a Viet Nam and was very fortunate. He was a cook in Nam and on safe ground for 12 months. Hopefully he is still alive. Saw him last in NJ in a four man scratch league in 1986(pre-resin). We won the league. He averaged 223. My anchor man was second high average with 203 and he was the manager. Cane may not remember him, since he was not around the action at Central and in the seventies through 1975. Mike was far better than me(solid 195 with rubber). I did bowl him once at Lyons in the seventies after he kept telling me how I suck. I used the great Charlie Faino's(rest in peace brother) ball. Kicked Mike's ass the first game. He buried me the second game and of course I quit. I told Mike remember you hump, you did not beat me. We were always bowling friends. In those days of real action, when you were mopped, you either walked away or stupidly walked away. I stupidly with somebody else's ball split with somebody much better. Of course he bowled every day and ran a pro shop. I now retired had a real job and only bolwed on the weekend. Amazing how I remember this shit and can't remember what the hell I did last Monday. I remember

Butch, it would be so much easier if you would alphabetize your action list. I knew everybody back in mid sixties through 1975, when I gave it up and stopped gambling and decided to start living right. I'm sure everybody else I knew is still gambling at something. Names to be added: Mike "the crook" Weinstein two time loser. Willie the sob Slobin, a tremendous 180 dumper who pretended to be 160, who used to go about 20 feet over the line. He also could bowl with the foul lights. David Hazelkorn who was horrible and bowled little action. Him and the slob were friends. i remember him one night at Central he parlayed 5 bucks into 500 on one match by switching back and fort. Add Bill Jargella(known as Chicago Bill) a plus 200 action bowler. We called him Jarrella. owned a pro shop in Jersey before he moved back to Chicago in early seventies, beacause he probably owed the bookies a ton. Good friends with me and MIKE DE ROSA. He went from owning a pro shop in NJ to becoming a COOK,back to where he was born. He was the unluckiest son of a bitch action bolwer I ever saw. He always seemed to make a good shot in the tenth when he needed it. So many times he left a solid ten or a four(no tripping in those days). Also Larr and Nino both from Brooklyn(don't remember last names). knew them well in sixties from Strike N Spare lanes and Central. If you ever alphabetize list, I can probably provide at leaar 20 more names. Yes, don't think RC from florida is on the list. He would fly up every weekend from Florida to bowl at Central. He wore gold shows, solid deuce and a tanker. He would generally lose the first two or three games, bet maybe 250 himself and get the side money on the other side. Next bet 1g. He did this for weeks until they took his ass out the bowling alley with guns and made him return the money one week.He never returned. Lemon, imo, was the only great action bowler that never tanked. Even the greatest the "horn"tanked. Ernie Schlegel big tanker and in my book, always remembered him as a scumbag. You should undestand after the way he acted when Randy left that stoned 8. And I made a ton on Schlegel betting in the back. Must have bet on 20 matches. Never went home a loser betting on schlegel. I know he would have dumped his mom for a win.

I did alphabetize, I like doing things in reverse so I did the first names instead of the last. Did you ever get involved with Mac & Stoop from Ave M in Brooklyn Keep posting, your very interesting... zoo

Sorry about that. I never realized what was right in front of me. Mike Derose, not Derosa is on your list. We spoke many years ago for quite along time, as you were setting up this website. You called me at home. i retired almost six years ago and reside in Florida with my lovely wife of almost six years. The other names mentioned above are not on the list. Stoop I remember well. I would loved to see the tank job with Iggy, but it was before I was in action. Others not mentioned: Pepsi, Freddy Quack Quack, Tony the Tiger. They were 170 bowlers and characters. Tony always bowled in a tea shirt. Tony I knew was a felon-supposedly believe it or not, he got paid good to take a rap. After I retired from the action, i found out that Pepsi had done time for armed robbery before I knew him. He moved to California. They were much older than me. If they are still alive, they're all in their seventies and probably still degenerates gamblers. One specific match I remember re. Pepsi. He leaves an eight pin in the tenth. Needed a spare for the wheat. The other guy must have fouled alot, because picks up his ball walks the lane with the ball, gets under the machine and MISSED the eight. Also, another night, he bowled doubles with Schlegel, believe it or not, because Ernie needed a horror show to get the match. Pepsi averaged his usual 170, Ernie better than 240. Another story about these two not concerning action One night for whatever reason Ernie wanted to bet Pepsi that his schlong was bigger. Ernie was much taller than Schlegel but so what. They got one of the females who came to Central evey weekend and had a huge breast to make the determination. She was also known has the slut. She loved the best bowlers around and blew quite a few of them. I was about 15-20 pins in average less. Anyway, she went into the bathroom with Pepsi and the Ernie. Ernie said so I did I do. Swear to God, sh said Ernie you were out of the wood in the sixth or seventh. Amazing as I stated before, can't remember what I did last week. Can remember the good old days. I'm on vacation with my lovely wife now, it's been shitty today, so I've been passing some time on here. Generally, come to your website maybe three or four times a year. Still bowling but since we moved here, not much league play the last two years. lots of traveling coming up next league season, so can't join a league. I gave up the game for 7 years after I quit action. I always said if I stop again, I'll quit forever which is very likely thisyear. I love the tour. And have not missed watching a stop in 23 years and recoding it. Except for the one when Rudy lost too Barnes, I have every stop on tape. We travel just about every month. We will be in AC next week for my lovely wife. She has never been there, fom New Mexico and a 1c to 5c slot player. And the luckiest slot player alive. Two years ago on a cruise and we do it almost once a month, she wins 400 on the penny machine betting 9 lines. Three weeks wins a grand in vegas betting nine lines. She rarely loses. More later.

Came across this site. Jeff Leone is real and was one of the best ever bowlers out of Essex County N.J. No one turned the bowl like he did in the 80's animal on the lanes. Bowled with him in the trio majors at Eagle Rock in West Orange his home house. Best ever to come out of that house period!!!!!!!!! Deserves to be on your list...

If you would like to nominate someone for the action bowlers hall of fame that’s not already on our list ( www.actionbowlers.com/greatest.html ) you can do so on this thread, just let us know the name of the person, when and where he bowled most of his action, and why you feel he belongs on this list. You can also comment about anyone already nominated..
