If you would like to nominate someone for the action bowlers hall of fame that’s not already on our list ( www.actionbowlers.com/greatest.html ) you can do so on this thread, just let us know the name of the person, when and where he bowled most of his action, and why you feel he belongs on this list. You can also comment about anyone already nominated..

How could a list of action bowlers be complete without the following two names. Johnny Massaro who had as smooth an approach as Engan and could really through that two finger hard rubber ball. The other character was Joe "The Lock" Dellilo - Action bowler, backer and hustler supreme. Why did people still try to beat him even with his reputation as "The Lock"? He would answer that question with a smile "Because they hate me".

I think i should be on the list. I bowled anyone that walked in the door at Bridge Lanes. I loved the action and beat some really good shooters in the late seventies. I beat Hank Behrbom,Louie Lamone and the Beeper to name a few. Joe the LOCK once said I was the craziest SOB he ever saw bowl action. you also have to put Tony Attanasio on this list because like me he would bowl anyone.

I see you left out a lot of other good action shooters. Flip, Earl,Pancake,Vic Loscalzo and Tony Attanasio. I used to back Tony A. from time to time.

You must have been good if you beat Behrbom, now residing in Florida for moons. Louie Lamone now dead no big deal. He was a dog.

The first step to get on the list, the person must be nominated and then seconded by someone else.

Lou, I think the hall of fame should have two categories, great action bowlers, and a second list of all the guys that were action hounds, loved the action and bowled plenty of it.
I'd like some suggestions from all you guys on what guide lines we should use for the two lists.
thanks

I would like to nominate my older brother Lou Harris. In the 60s he was the top action bowler at Tremont Lanes, Gun Post and Capri Lanes in the Bronx. I am presently a PBA member, and bowled with many of the HOFers on your site. It is a great site, and brings back a lot of memories. Although I bowled with Mark and Johnny in recent years in nationals and regionals, I bowled in the early 80s with the Snake, Santini, Capasso, Albanese, Laursen, D'Ambrosio, Stein in Staten Island. All the best, Howie Harris ;D

Billy,
Thanks for getting back to me. My brother Lou was instrumental in teaching me about the game and still look forward to our challenge matches. He bowls now in Bergen County (still averages over a deuce). I turned pro in 1989 when I lived in central Jersey (Jackson) near PB IIIs house, but learned to bowl at MSG in NY. Junior bowling at Stadium Lanes, Bowlerland and Pel Park, all in the Bronx. Bowled for De Witt Clinton in the 70s, got married moved to Staten Island, and bowled in some great leagues there. Met Lou Capasso, Joe Santini, Snake Lorenzo from Bklyn, and locals Joey Albanese, Ray Laursen, Steve Stein and Vinny D'Ambrosio. You have a terrific site, and I look forward to reading on !!. Thanks, Howie

I heard Tony the bus driver was good at Bridge. At other houses not very good. I saw him many times at Woodhaven where he never bowled good. I saw him bowl doubles with Pete hakim one night. PH averaged over 240 and they were lucky to break even. The next week he bowled doubles with Hank Behrbom and averaged maybe 180. Hank needed to strike out the fourth game to split the four games. He did and SHOT 290.

Well, my name is Tom Drake, I was Rudys right hand man during the early 80's. I would be up all night rooting Revs and cheering him on as well as keeping the score. After a few hours, I would ask Rudy for $1 for a soda and I would be berated. He knew I had no money back then and he was bowling for hundreds and $1 was too much to ask. For a guy spending all night and morning giving my all in the scoring/cheering section! What do you make of that? I cant tell you how many days I wasted in my Life being his cheer/scoring boy?

Well I guess it took you awhile before you stopped being a sucker. The action hall of fame is a list of all action bowlers, not just great action bowlers. if just great action bowlers, the list would number about five. When did Bill Lane bowl action and against whom?

How about Andy Ippolito? This guy was great action at the HAVEN in the 80's&90's.He would go toe to toe with Snake & Jamesy, both with the bowling ball and the trash talk. The most impressive aspect of Andy was that he bet his own money, and he actually works for a living, which is a rareity among the bowling alley crews. He bowls PBA senior tour now and Grand Masters, also owns the pro shop at woodhaven, and seems to be doing quite well, another rareity among ACTION PLAYERS!!!!!

Another great bowler was Richie Bonelli from Ozone Park N.Y. His home house was Americana, but he bowled tons of action at Jamaica Rec.& Jamaica Arena.Later in his career he was a dominating force in Maple & Rainbow, out averaging the likes of Simo Sr, Snake, Spallone, Picone,to name a few.He learned a lot bowling with Tony Sparando at Bowl-Mor in the 60's.Ask anyone who bowled in those leagues, who was the toughest in the 10th.He was also the most respected, not only for his talent, but because he was always a gentleman. He once shot 853 in Maple with a white-dot and fouled on the last ball.Thats TALENT!!!!

No disrespect,Louie, but Richie was a great action bowler long before he was even recognized as a tough league bowler. In those days, action was his main source of income. We used to pump up for the action,by logging the stops on the neighborhood milkmans run,and then beating him to the boxes on the following week. Those were the days!!!! ;D

1st time i met richie was in the early 80's probobly 1984. that was the 1st year back after a 3 or 4 year layoff. he bowled with simo sr. he was tough. stryker i guess we know each other. ithink richie was tough on grindouts becouse he was so accurate. but as you say it was probobly before i met him. we were also in different circle. i was the stupid action bowler i wanted the best in the house. usually won then never got the pie matches even though the horn begged me many a night. in the 80's bonelli hornriech snake and the maple-rainbow crew could stir up action on staten island. one night the cane set up a match between albanese and i think longo against me and snake at country and we beat them badly and i believe richie and the horn made a ton that night betting in the back. problem was the crap game broke one of them quickly. guess who ? remember mike machio he bowled alot of action in the 80's with that twirly bird he thru. he scored well but not in the same class as bonelli. if you see richie give him my regards

Zoomaster,I have some Richie stories, but I don't have time right now.I will at a later date ,post a few. Thanks for this site,it brings back great memories!!!

Tommy bear 13, rudy needs a scorekeeper in Tupelo. Elvis' country still without automatic scoring. Heard Rudy has finally wised up and quit the tour. Andy Ippolito belongs on the list as an action bowler but nothing special. Snake was a superior bowler. Bonelli was a steady bowler in the 22Os for over 10 years at Rainbow. Less than 10 years ago at an average of around 230, he was the highest average in NYC for that season. Don't remember much about his action days.

Looking at your list of all time action bowlers their is many names on the list, But if this site knows anything about action bowling in new jersey , You are missing one of the best ever action bowler if not the BEST in nj, His name is Jeff Leone. He bowled in the late 80's and early 90's, He won 7 kegler tourneys by the age of 21 yrs old , bellrose lanes, showplace, bellclair, lakeview dont remember the rest. He also made alot i mean Alot of money from 87 to 90 over 6 figures in action games. He beat alot of guys you have on that list, just to name a few , rudy revs he beat at eagle rock, tony rosamilla he beat many times at e rock and then at tonys home house at the time circle lanes, after oscar pickhein flooded the outside Leone moved inside with a white dot and beat him up bad. Leone threw the most revs I ever saw in my life also beat perry, sachs, colossi, morin, just to name a few . His name without a doubt should be on this list,If you ask any of the guys you have on this list from nj,gualtiere, foti, perry, derose, rosamilla, semiz, they will all tell you the same,he also traveled the ny circuit also ask simo jr,steve chirella, they will tell u the same he was an animal. I watched him throw 38 in a row at garden state ball against colossi cherry pie and pugy, forget about it,this list is a big mistake without him on it ,,,,I backed him for alot of years I am trying to get him back on the lanes, he tells me he cant beleive patrick allen is on tour he couldnt touch him either in those days they were both young guns,,,problem is now he hits a golf ball over 350 yards he is in to longdriving contests now..without a dobt should be added,,,thank you....
